All you need to know about Clay Roof Tiles
Technical Characteristics
Water Absorption – Immersion of these tiles in water for 24 hours results in water absorption of between 6 – 8 %.
Durability – Resistant to salt attack and are therefore suitable for coastal areas. They also resist frost attack making them suitable for colder regions.
Permeability – Low water permeability and are therefore suitable for areas of heavy rainfall and tropical climates.
Size Variation – Although the products are manufactured to the highest control levels, natural raw materials may vary in consistency causing differential shrinkage rates. It is important that each batch being supplied is checked for size before installation, and that the batten centres are placed to suit the tile.
Italcotto have completed many clay roofing projects in Cape Town including the Caledon police station, Cape Town Magistrate’s court, Groote Schuur Hospital , University of Cape Town , Canal Walk Shopping Mall and many wine estates where a clay roof is a traditional covering.
